One Brick raises the majority of its operating funds through the grass roots efforts of its local chapters. We also leverage foundations and national organizations to help fund our expansion to new communities. We are proud that we are able to run a large volunteer organization on a very modest budget.
In 2010, we provided over 47,000 hours of service in eight communities on a budget of $155,000. Our primary funding sources are Our Volunteers (41%), Community Events (16%), Business Partnerships (29%), Foundations (3%), Reserve Funds (10%)
Towards the end of the year, Charitable Ventures Foundation agreed to support our expansion to a total of 25 new cities with a four year 2-for-1 matching grant of $214,000. As we work to expand to new cities we expect the percentages above to shift somewhat with business partnerships and foundations covering on a larger portion of the expenses. As our new chapters become established we expect them to be self sustaining. This means that once again grass-roots fund raising (donations from volunteers and community events) will provide the bulk of our financial support.
Over half of One Brick's funding comes from the generosity of our volunteers. We are especially pleased that they not only give their time but also help support our work financially. In 2010, over 300 people made direct donations via our website. They think we're awesome and the feeling is mutual.
Each One Brick chapter hosts regular social events such as Happy Hours, Bowling Tournaments and Board Game nights. For a small admission fee, attendees can mingle, have fun, make new friends and support a great cause (without doing any work)!

CVF has been a firm supporter of One Brick since 2004 when they helped fund the launch our 2nd second and third chapters in New York and Chicago. They have recently extended a generous matching grant to help us expand to 25 chapters over the next four years.
Leo Buscaglia Foundation
