Q: What Is One Brick?

A: One Brick is a volunteer organization that brings people together to help non-profits and community organizations staff their events or work on projects. This type of support facilitate more than $1200 in manpower during an typical event.

Q: Is there any kind of commitment?

A: Unlike other volunteer organizations, One Brick does not require an on-going commitment from you. You can attend as few or as many events as you want. All we ask is that when you do RSVP, you attend and bring a positive attitude and helpful spirit.

Q: Is there any cost to participant?

A: No, there is no fee to come and volunteer with us. We do go out to lunch/dinner/drinks after most events, and everybody pays their own way.

Q: Why do people volunteer with One Brick?

A: People join us for many reasons - it feels good to volunteer your time to worthy causes; you can meet friendly, interesting people; and you can expand your social and business networks.

Q: How do I sign up?

A:  Simply go to our Calendar and select an event. The automated RSVP system will ask for some basic information: email, phone, name, etc. This information is absolutely confidential and is not used for any purposes beyond contacting you to remind you about the event you signed up for, and other upcoming volunteer opportunities.

If you don't see anything you can attend, sign up for our weekly email Newsletter to hear about other upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Q: What is the average age range of One Brick volunteers?

A:  Most of our volunteers are in thier 20s or 30s. However, our events are open to all adults.

Q: Are there any restrictions on attending events?

A:  All volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Q: Do I have to be a member to attend a One Brick social function? Can I bring friends to an event?

A:  Social events are open to everyone - we use them as fundraisers to keep the organization running smoothly and help us expand. Bring everyone you know!!

Q: How can I learn about possible projects or social events?

A:  All of our events are listed on our Event Calendar. Simply click on an event title that interests you and a detailed description will appear. We also send out a weekly email newsletter. You can sign up for our Mailing List to begin receiving them.

Q: How long do events last?

A:  Events generally last 2-4 hours. After most events, we go to a nearby restaurant for food and drinks. This can extend the event for another hour or two. Some events are much longer, and some provide meals for the volunteers (these are very popular events!).

Q: What do volunteers do at events?

A:  All sorts of things. At the Food Bank you might be sorting and labeling canned food or separating massive bins of oranges into boxes. At outdoor gardening events, you might be weeding, planting, or spreading mulch. At fundraising events, you might help with catering, bartending, or registering guests as they arrive. Try to pick an event that appeals to your interests and if you have any questions about activities, please email the Event Manager.

Q: What if I want to take a more active role within One Brick?

A:  One Brick is 100% volunteer run. We don't have ANY employees at the chapter level. We are always looking for new people to join our Leadership Team! As a Manager or Coordinator, you will be responsible for keeping track of volunteer RSVPs, sign in sheets, nametags, keeping the event social and running smoothly, and choosing a restaurant for our after-event get together. As a committee member, you can help with happy hours, fundraising, event scheduling and more. If you are interested in helping out, please visit our Get Involved page for more information.

Q: How does my organization get help?

A:  If you are seeking volunteers to help with an event or project, please visit our Request Help page for information on how to get One Brick involved. We look forward to working with you!

Q: Do you accept court ordered volunteers? Do you sign volunteer forms?

A:  We are a volunteer organization that is seeking to help people who want to volunteer. Therefore, we do not accept court ordered volunteers and do not sign any volunteer forms.

Q: Are most of your functions held downtown?

A:  We try to accommodate our suburban volunteers by having a wide range of locations. In San Francisco, for example, we host lots of events in the South and East Bay. Keep an eye on our calendar for events in your area.

Q: Is it okay if I bring my friends, family, sorority, church group?

A:  One Brick's mission it to provide volunteer opportunities for individuals.  Unfortunately we can not accept reservations from groups.
